This climate-adaptive restoration project will take place in the Bear River watershed at Wuda Ogwa, the site of the 1863 massacre, purchased by the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation as part of their historic territories. For Wuda Ogwa, climate change means higher summer temperatures, increased variability in precipitation and reduced snowpack. This project will co-produce and co-implement a stewardship plan with the northwestern band of the Shoshone Nation that weaves together Indigenous, Western scientific, and local knowledge and will broaden the typical inputs and values used to inform adaptation goals and interventions. This climate adaptation project aims to regenerate habitat for native fish and wildlife species, focusing on enhancing water storage, water quality, biodiversity and watershed connectivity.
