Climate change in the Northeastern US is increasing climatic extremes like severe droughts and precipitation events, threatening many ecosystems, including forests. Many of the dominant tree species in New Hampshire are climate-vulnerable, yet these forests are critical for wildlife and biodiversity. The Nature Conservancy in New Hampshire, along with the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS) and the University of Vermont, will convene a group of regional climate experts, land managers, foresters, and private landowners to implement climate adaptation strategies in two large, predominantly forested landscapes in New Hampshire. Project partners and participants will use a suite of resources to scrutinize and adjust current management practices, resulting in implementation of place-based adaptation actions across these landscapes which is an adaptation mainstreaming strategy connected to this implementation project.
