Scott River Watershed Council
Climate challenge: Bigger and Hotter Fires
grant award: $248,556; Year Awarded: 2019
The Scott River Watershed is in Northern California, and is a global biodiversity hotspot with more than 600 species. The watershed is already experiencing the effects of climate change, with reductions in snow water, which will have critical impacts on the watershed’s biodiversity, especially at lower elevations. This project will bring prescribed fire to the landscape to accelerate the ecological benefits of plans to manage fuels and forest stand composition, provide refugia and migration corridors to critical ecological habitats, and allow multiple species to adapt to climate change.
