Climate Change Challenge: rising seas
Grant Award: $250,000; Year Awarded: 2016
Audubon will implement an innovative hydrological manipulation strategy at Farm Creek Marsh in Dorchester County, Maryland to alleviate excessive inundation, which is causing the fragmentation and erosion of the marsh under the influence of sea-level rise. This work will inform strategies to facilitate the effective transition of uplands to tidal marsh as sea-level rises, because this process, although natural, is sometimes compromised by ground surface collapse, resulting in basin topography similar to that at Farm Creek Marsh and erosion to open water.
